TRANSPORTATION

Currently, 69% of apprentices rely on public transportation daily, with nearly 3 out of 4 past and present apprentices depending on it during their time in the program. Without a personal vehicle, apprentices sacrifice valuable time and money navigating Dallas’ transit system just to get to work.

Internal Transportation for Daily Success

Because of the distance to our 40-acre Extension Farm and the time constraints our apprentices face, Bonton Farms also maintains an internal transportation system that ensures apprentices can thrive. This includes:

  • Delivering nutritious breakfasts to fuel their day

  • Providing rides to enrichment classes and training

  • Supporting the program’s daily operations with dependable transportation

For many apprentices, this system is the bridge between survival and success.

The Road Ahead

Our impact is clear:

  • 69% of current apprentices use public transit daily
    (9 out of 13)

  • 74% of all apprentices, past and present, relied on public transit during the program (17 out of 23)

  • 2 graduates have achieved a milestone of purchasing their own vehicles after completing the program

Every mile traveled represents progress—toward stability, self-sufficiency, and brighter futures.

Driving Toward Opportunity

Through our partnership with South Dallas Driving Academy, apprentices can earn both their Driver’s License and eventually their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in a supportive, step-by-step process:

  • Accelerated Driver’s License Program – Apprentices can complete training and earn their license in as little as 4 weeks.

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program – After maintaining a valid license for at least one year, eligible apprentices may enter the CDL track, which can be completed in about 16 weeks.

These credentials provide life-changing opportunities, equipping apprentices with the tools they need to secure stable careers and independence.
