Feathers, Farms, and Community: A Morning of Birding at Bonton Farms Extension Farm
Yesterday morning, the Bonton Farms Extension Farm came alive with wings, calls, and curious eyes as community members gathered for a special birding event in partnership with the Trinity River Audubon Center. With binoculars in hand and the early sun rising over the farm, participants experienced firsthand how agriculture, conservation, and wildlife beautifully intersect.
Guided by knowledgeable birding leaders, we explored the fields, tree lines, and nearby waterways, discovering just how rich this landscape is for both resident and migratory birds. From soaring raptors to tiny songbirds flitting through the brush, the diversity observed was a powerful reminder that urban green spaces like Bonton Farms play a vital role in supporting local ecosystems.
The morning was filled with learning, laughter, and the thrill of spotting “just one more bird.” Below is a creative snapshot of the incredible species recorded during yesterday’s outing.
